Attractions & Activities in Wanaka

There are a wide range of things to see and do in Wanaka.

Hikes, Walks and Bike Tracks

There are numerous hikes, walks and bike tracks around Wanaka and the surrounding areas which range in distance and suit everyone's fitness level.

  • The trailhead parking for Roy's Peak is a 10 minute drive from the motel. The trail is a 16km return and takes approximately 5-6 hours. You will need good footwear and plenty of water. We have hiking poles available to borrow from reception if you need them. It is best to start early in the morning - if you're feeling really adventurous, hike up to the top for spectacular sunrise views!
  • The Rob Roy Glacier Track is 10km return which takes 3-4 hours and starts from Raspberry Flat car park which is about an hour drive from the motel. It's a good idea to check the weather beforehand as it can be unpredictable.
  • Mount Iron Track is a 4.5km loop which takes approximately 1.5 hours and is just a 5 minute drive from the motel.

Check the DOC website for more advice on the local treks and trails.

This expansive mountain has the longest vertical rise in the Southern Lakes with far reaching boundaries spread over two large basins.
